Dresser Restoration

Recently I’ve been on the hunt for a new dresser to match the rest of the furniture in my bedroom. I spent a solid weekend this past month looking through every antique shop I could find in Fort Wayne. In all the years living in this city, I had no idea there were so many little antique spots scattered throughout the city. Now, one of my favorite places to find old antiques, Nature’s Corner Antique Mall, off Spy Run and State street had just the dresser I’d been looking for. I took it from its original condition, sanded it down to expose the natural wood then coated this beast with a black stain and polyurethane mix from Minwax. My goal was to keep the really nice grain and natural wood feel but modernize it to fit into my room’s current style. I’m not entirely sure, but I believe this dresser is made of Almond Oak?

I’m ultimately really happy with the final product, this dresser is the perfect size for all of my everyday clothes. The deciding factor for buying the dresser was its elevated legs and slightly older victorian feel to it. This was my first dresser restoration project but I have a feeling it won’t be my last. This was a ton of fun and incredibly rewarding. If you have any questions or feedback for me, please leave a comment below, I’d love to hear them.
